Old Posts Inaccessible

So happy it’s back. But only new posts can be accessed at the moment (at least by me). When clicking on posts made prior to the shutdown (3/18 or thereabouts) it says “No Thread Specified”. Hopefully this is just temporary and all will be restored soon.

VEF still not quite right

It seems that VEF is still not quite right, it still throws some 502 messages =(
and also the pixhost host service seems not to be working, I tried to upload something and it stopped uploading the files and now it doesn't even allow me to enter the page.

PS is back, but for VEF?

PlanetSuzy is up with some things that will most likely will get fixed in the next few weeks (searchbar, etc.), but as of rn VEF is currently 502 atm.

SUPER bad timing for VEF to crash though, considering Easter is this weekend, the people who will fix the servers will probably be gone for the weekend. And since PS is the main priority over VEF, the latter site won't be back up until probably next week at the earliest.

In response to: Hoping for VEF's Return, and a "Hidden Comments" Question, I think that some of the comments that appear as hidden are that they were racist towards other visitors to the forum or rude comments, so they get negative votes and I I imagine that the moderators hide them, by the way the VEF site again returns the message 502 Bad Gateway nginx, Planetsuzy is now working again apparently without problems, let's hope that VEF is soon to work again. =)

Hoping for VEF's Return, and a "Hidden Comments" Question

I have found these comments very useful, being among those who would like to see VEF back up again. I'd say the odds for the site's disappearance are slim, in response to those who believe this situation will not be resolved.

I have a question; is there a way to read the "Hidden comments"? They were accessible once, since visitors have voted on them. They are all negative votes, so it's possible they were reported (these hidden comments lack a link for "Spam or obscene language? Report it!"), but if they contained spam or obscenities, I'd imagine the posts would have been removed, and not confusingly remain. (If these posts had unpopular opinions, visitors may still benefit from reading them.)

That makes sense if they are testing.
It's real good progress from my point of view.
Next question is why did it take this long to do a rebuild/restore? If it's a hypervisor on a distributed VM. wouldnt there be failover backups for just this type of problem? Maybe that would come in a higher tier of service. No idea. I dont envy the site folks having to verify that many DB entries.
I also wonder, how big is a place like Psuzy or vef DB-wise?
If using XenForo Image Proxy, around 150GB? 250GB? Terabyte?'

Lost data

If and when the site is up and running again, would admins be able to identify what (if any) data had been lost? Personally, I don't have that much on file but having said that, I would certainly answer an appeal by admins to search for and repost any material that had been lost.

Thanks rezeed, and if I may add something to this, I got a reply from LarryO, mod of NCF, and this was his reply:

'I have been told that Planetsuzy should be online within 12 - 24 hours.

The main server that hosts configurations for the hypervisors, which run the forums and support@ email client, became corrupted. The database integrity still is in question; some data may have been lost. We will not know for sure until the forum is online and the index is rebuilt'

Being VEF Mod also I can confirm what ciccio. said. The Mod team doesn't know, what exactly happened and how long it will take to fix it.

All connected, but way smaller sites like fritchy, are up and running again since a few days.

It's most likely that the sheer size of VEF's and PS's databases is the reason that it takes longer to bring them back.

So, just be patient.

Meanwhile, have a look at fritchy. there is a dedicated thread, where news will be found, if there are any.

The 502 errors had already been occurring sporadically for several months prior to this outage as I'm sure most other members recall. Nothing new there. I'm guessing (guessing) that the db or front end just finally hit the wall and the admins are working hard to restore it.

Server update

So VEF and PlanetSuzy (both have the same servers) will most likely be back up and running reportedly between Mon. and Tue. (according to sources).

Server issues, probably database...

As a server admin I feel bad for the admins and mods at VEF since this outage happened. I suspect a corrupt database and the backup is taking forever to load. What I do find bizarre is when I have such server (Linux) issues I simply pop up an html index file to explain what's happen, time expected to fix and thank all the visitors etc etc. You do not need a database to get that message out or a https redirect to another server with that message.

VEF down or closed !?

Hi all. I don't think VEF is closed because it has been around for over 12 years and is the most serious about its content. On the other hand, perhaps they had a CMS problem (crashing or hacking). Note that during the same period, storage sites such as Imagevenue or Imagebam found themselves out of service in the same way. Is there a cause and effect link? Maybe ! The last VEF breakdown about ten years ago lasted a short week so let's be patient. ;)

I was wondering why my connection to VEF wasn't working, turns out it was the servers (no surprise there). It hasn't been working since Wed. night and it's the same situation that happened last year (at this exact same time as well).
